Job Description Create and maintain strategies to guide Supply Chain leaders in the planning and decision making processes regarding the management of financial targets and/or commodity based product pricing. Determine the best time to take long-term vs. short-term positions in the market for each given commodity based product.
Job Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, finance, supply chain or related field or seven years industry or analytical experience
• Thorough understanding of commodity markets
• Working knowledge of statistical concepts including regression analysis
• Thorough understanding of hedging principles and tools
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access software programs for data management, charting and reporting
• Relationship building skills and ability to influence others
Job Details • Execute and/or develop the audit of the strategic sourcing process for assigned internal business partners to provide supplier discovery, qualification, product specification review, opportunities to model and tie to commodities, bid or negotiate, create supply chain and inbound freight efficiencies and recommend award strategy
• Partner with category managers and suppliers in creating the best long-term strategy for managing risk pertaining to commodity ingredients for private brand, branded, and indirect products and/or the best way to calculate actual value of these activities. Utilize expertise to facilitate strategic relationships with suppliers regarding their ingredient costs through development, communication and the implementation of the modeling process
• Validate cost changes received from suppliers where commodity costs are said to be the driving factor. Advise category managers on appropriate discussions and facts to negotiate the most accurate pricing based on commodity market factors
• Develop and continually improve the formula based pricing process to assure that the raw material pricing is equitable
• Monitor commodity markets affecting product ingredients and take a proactive approach to informing category managers on the appropriate action to take to avoid or minimize margin risk. Develop and manage systems to provide timely and accurate communication processes to manage commodity price risk exposure. Communicate expected future ingredient cost to all areas of the business
• May support category margin maximizing analysis through long range demand planning in order to more accurately forecast based on commodity predictions. Prepare and provide price and volume forecasts to the various category managers. Assist in margin budget process for commodity categories
• Facilitate training of category management teams on the concepts of commodity management and strategic sourcing to include bids, models, supply chain and logistics.
• Report commodity price risks to senior management, measure and report of activities that have been completed. Delivering presentations on commodity risk management as needed
• Assure that all price risk management activities are in agreement with overall price risk management policy of organization. Development and maintenance of systems to track both cash market exposures and derivative instruments held for risk control. Effecting transactions in derivatives markets consistent with corporate risk management policy. Maintaining documentation for all derivatives positions in accordance with financial accounting standards.
